Simil,3rly, Buckingh,1.msh1re County & District Councils will be Jointly represented; several meetings have already taken place i nvol vi ng representatives of County, Di str i et ?,. Par-i sh Counc i 1 s and Drop et, Final details of local strategy are still under discussion. but it is certain that the active participation and encouragement of residents will be vital to offset the undoubted advantage that Eton enjoys in having virtually unlimited finance; probably up to a million pounds, compared with the limited funds which can be made available by our Councils & DROPET. The College also enJoys a numerical advantage; they already persuaded many of their thousands of "old bovs" rowers to sign cards of support. numbers which we cannot to match, WHAT CAN YOU DO, NOW?????????? have and hope Dr-opet & the Parish Counci 1 wi 11 , later, advise VOLt as to how & when you can give your active support. If you are a rowing enthusiast they need to know all about official course dimensions, regattas etc. E::perts on local history might like to think what effect the trench and associated traffic could have on historical artefacts. How will the 200 daily gravel lorries affect YOLJ'7 Perhaps you have information about the special Rowing Trenches which have been constructed elsewhere. It is, therefore, proposed by the committee that the society be wound up. It is further proposed that the society' s funds of £900 be transferred to the DROPET Organisation, set up specifically in the village, to oppose the construction of the Eton College Rowing Lake. The society has, in the past, voted its overwhelming opposition to the Rowing Lake and the contribution to DROPET would be timely in view of the expense involved in presenting Dorneys opposition at the public enquiry next May. In order to settle the matter quickly, a vote is to be taken of the Society' s membership as of 1990, on simple majority basis. This letter is being circulated to paid-up members for that year, the last year for which subscriptions were requested and collected. The result of the vote will be published in the Parish Magazine. Yours faithfully, for the Society M.M. Long -6- • • • TI IF DORNEY AND DIS'J'RICTCONS l•:R\',\:l'ION SOCILn l'IU·'.SJ11FN'IG: Sir :\mold 1 LilL F.
